Four of our marvellous mathematicians took part in the National Young Mathematicians Award at Holmfirth High School on Wednesday 7th November.
The competition, organised by NRICH in association with Cambridge University,
was open to Year 6 children.
Our team of Amy, Hermione, Adam and Lewis joined other teams from schools in the Holme Valley. Their challenge was to find all the ways of arranging coloured beads to make a bracelet and then convince others that they have found them all. The judges were looking for the boys and girls who worked best as a team.

Our wonderful mathematicians made it through to the 2nd round! This heat took place at Holmfirth High School on Tuesday 20th November.
The letter that confirmed our success stated,
Dear Math Coordinator,
I would like to congratulate your school on being successful in the first round of the National Young Mathematicians Award Competition. We were very impressed with their ability to understand the problem, to be systematic in their approach, to work as a team and to use good recording systems. We very much enjoyed the enthusiasm and spirit in which the youngsters approached the task and communicated with each other.
We now await the results to see if the children are through to the Grand final! This would be so exciting as it will be held at the University of Cambridge!
