Achievements 2014-2015

The gardening club have been extremely busy this year, harvesting, painting, pruning, digging, weeding and much much more. (They even gave their harvest to the school kitchen who cooked it and served school grown beans and potatoes to the school). Take a look at all the wonderful things they have been up to in the pictures below.

On Friday the 8th of May I was invited into your school to do some Cycle Coaching with lots of the Year 3 pupils. I work for the Pennine Sports Partnership and we offer this to schools; it is different to Bikeability where the children are learning to ride safely on the road as this is all in the playground and on the school fields so we are able to be a bit more adventurous!

As a British Cycling Coach for Holmfirth Cycling Club I was really surprised at the level of skills the children showed me. During their 1+ hour sessions we covered, safe braking; cornering; balance & steering; riding through narrow spaces; climbing & descending and finally we had some racing on the grass.

Their resilience and enthusiasm was second to none, all in all a great day – thank you.

If any of the children are interested in coming along to any Holmfirth Cycling Club we train at Holmfirth High School on Monday evenings from 6-7 and on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Please look at the Holmfirth CC community facebook page or

for further information. Be fantastic to see some new Wooldale faces at our sessions.

The Wooldale Team Marathon Event was held on Thursday 21st May. In this event every child from each class ran at least one mile and every class collectively ran a marathon. Altogether the children (and staff) ran well over 200 miles!
Each class and parents cheered on the others and the infant children from Kirkroyds, which is federated with Wooldale, joined in with the fun. The event was held to raise money for The Children's Air Ambulance as well as to get fit and have fun.

The sun shone and the children ran at the first meeting of Neiley Races this year. All the children were spectacular and a lovely evening was had by all.

Mrs Sunderland competition is an annual event, held in Huddersfield and attracting entries from all over Yorkshire. Wooldale have, for many years, entered children into the speech and drama classes as well as the poetry and writing classes. This year was no exception. We entered children from all age ranges and are pleased to tell you, achieved many great successes.

Christmas lunch day 2014 was celebrated in style. The staff and children wore Christmas jumpers to raise money for Save the Children and a great time was had by all.

The Christmas Carol and Nativity was celebrated at Christ Church New Mill. It was a fabulous night with every class contributing their part to tell the Christmas story.

Below are some of the pictures from Christmas, why not take a look.

Red Nose Day was a great success. Everyone dressed up and the children had a competition to paint the faces of the staff. Children pampered the staff at lunchtime in a nail salon and others held a cake stall after school. Well done to everyone.

The year began well at Wooldale when we found out how many of our artists had been successful in the Walker Morris Calendar Competition. Here are our winners this year: Samuel, Elisabeth, Regan, Aoife, Edward, Chloe, Amelie and Ella.
